At Del Mar Racing, care and commitment extend beyond the horses. This summer, dozens of backstretch workers were able to access free medical and dental care thanks to a partnership between the California Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Foundation (CTHF) and TrueCare Health. Special mobile wellness clinics were set up near the track kitchen, bringing vital healthcare services directly to the community that keeps the backstretch running.

From routine checkups to dental support, these clinics provided convenient and accessible care for individuals whose demanding schedules often make it difficult to seek out medical services.

“Supporting the backstretch means supporting the backbone of racing,” said Jordyn Egan, Executive Director of the CTHF. “These wellness clinics are a meaningful way to give back to the people who help care for all of our horses.”

The program builds on Del Mar’s ongoing efforts, such as the Del Mar Meal Program, which serves 400–500 free meals daily to backstretch workers in partnership with CTHF and the Oak Tree Racing Association. Together, these initiatives reflect a shared commitment to both equine and human welfare.

By recognizing the dedication of backstretch workers and providing resources that support their health, Del Mar Racing and its partners reaffirm the importance of caring for the entire racing community — both on and off the track.
