Our Mission

To preserve and protect California’s vibrant equestrian culture by bringing together industry leaders, workers, families and fans to illustrate its significant benefits.

About the California Horse Power Coalition

The California Horse Power Coalition, founded by Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, Santa Anita Park, and Thoroughbred Owners of California, is a growing partnership of Thoroughbred associations, organizations representing backstretch workers and jockeys, animal wellness advocates and more.

Horse racing is a popular sport among Californians – 4.1 million households in California have a horse enthusiast in their home – but the industry has a greater impact than many people realize. In fact, the equine industry contributes billions annually to our state’s tourism industry and economy, and employs tens of thousands of workers. It also supports sustainable agriculture and enriches communities across California.

Through this coalition, we aim to educate the public about these benefits and create space to share resources and information. We will also highlight the hardworking individuals — the trainers, backstretch workers, jockeys, breeders, and more — who are dedicated to working with and caring for our horses, and contribute to our community and culture in countless ways.
