Behind the thrill of each race at Del Mar is a community of dedicated men and women working tirelessly on the backstretch. Their role is vital, as they provide around-the-clock care and support for the horses that make racing possible.

To honor and support this essential workforce, Del Mar Racing operates the Del Mar Meal Program, which provides 400–500 free meals every day during the racing season.

This initiative is carried out in collaboration with the California Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Foundation (CTHF) and the Oak Tree Racing Association, organizations that share the mission of recognizing and caring for the people who sustain the sport.

More than nourishment, the program serves as a gesture of appreciation — offering comfort, community, and gratitude to those whose efforts often go unseen by fans but are indispensable to racing.

By continuing to invest in the well-being of the backstretch community, Del Mar Racing, CTHF, and Oak Tree Racing Association reaffirm their shared commitment to the people who are the backbone of Thoroughbred racing.
